CRAIG: 8:00 Dancing With The Stars; 10:00 Triangle
SHILO: 8:00 The Good Doctor; 9:00 NYPD Blue; 10:00 Bad Alibi
CRAIG: I’ve kept Dancing With The Stars on Monday nights, and to follow it I’ve got Triangle, a series that sounds perfect for that audience that watched Manifest and featuring the star of The Brave. (Remember that one?) Something like this might go nicely with the general DWTS viewership. Yes, I know my Monday is less bold than yours, Shilo, but I’m owning it.
SHILO: For their boldest move this fall, I think that ABC goes whole hog after the drama audience on Mondays. The Good Doctor has great non-linear numbers despite its L+SD troubles in 2018-19, so moving it to an earlier slot makes sense and would give the 9:00 drama a good shot at being sampled. Even though I wonder about NYPD Blue since ABC’s audiences don’t really gravitate toward gritty procedurals, I think ABC takes a shot and uses its awareness A) to go after 9-1-1 and B) as the cornerstone of this drama night. While capping the night with a lower priority renewal would make sense in terms of marketing dollars, having a reboot/revival like NYPD Blue makes launching two new shows back-to-back less of a headache, so if ABC loves its drama pilot slate and/or feels the strain of its weakening drama class, I think that’s what they do. PI drama Bad Alibi (fka Stumptown) seems like a decent match with NYPD Blue, is the type of female-led programming that new president Karey Burke has talked up, features a well-known lead in Cobie Smulders, and should provide the affiliates with an okay total viewer lead-in.
