AMC has announced that they’ve commissioned The Little Drummer Girl, a six-episode miniseries based on the John le Carre novel of the same name.

“After the tremendous reception by U.S. audiences to The Night Manager, we are thrilled to be working again with the Ink Factory and the BBC on another brilliantly plotted and deeply emotional John le Carré thriller, The Little Drummer Girl,” Madden said. “I read the book when it was published in the 1980s, and it’s frightening and thought-provoking to recognize how relevant the story still is today. Florence Pugh is a gifted actress who will make a stunning Charlie, and Park is a filmmaker of extraordinary vision whose entry into the world of le Carré-style espionage should be irresistible.”

To be directed by Oldboy‘s Park Chan-wook, The Little Drummer Girl is set in the 1970’s amid rising tension in the Middle East and follows Charlie (Florence Pugh), a young actress prepares for her ultimate role. The project will be the second le Carre adaptation to land at AMC following The Night Manager, which picked up 12 Emmy nominations and 3 Golden Globe wins among a sea of accolades. The network also has The Spy Who Came in From the Cold, as well as a second installment of The Night Manager, in development.

The Little Drummer Girl joins a scripted slate for AMC that includes The Walking Dead, Humans, Into the Badlands, Better Call Saul, Fear the Walking Dead, Preacher, and The Son. The network is also set to debut McMafia, Dietland, and The Terror in 2018.
