AMC has released the first photo from upcoming thriller McMafia, a co-production with the BBC that was ordered to series this past November.
Inspired by Misha Glenny’s novel of the same name and developed for television by Hossein Amini (Drive) and James Watkins (The Woman in Black), McMafia follows Alex Goodman (James Norton), the English-raised son of Russian exiles who has spent his life trying to erase his mafia past. He’s gone about building a legitimate business and getting into a relationship with someone who keeps him grounded, but Alex soon finds himself drawn back into his family’s decidedly tangled web when their past turns up to threaten them.
In addition to Norton, McMafia stars Faye Marsay (Game of Thrones) as Alex’s sister Katya; Juliet Rylance (The Knick) as Rebecca, Alex’s morally upright girlfriend; Aleksey Serebryakov (The Method) as Alex’s father Dimitri, the exiled head of a Russian crime syndicate; and Maria Shukshina (Yolki 3) as Oksana, Alex’s socialite mother.
McMafia is set to premiere next year on AMC, where it will join a scripted slate that includes Into the Badlands, Humans, and The Walking Dead.
