Variety is reporting that ABC vampire soap The Brides has added Claws alum Katherine Reis, Sophia Tatum (I Am Not Okay With This), and Broadchurch‘s Chris Mason.
From Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Riverdale), with Greg Berlanti executive producing, The Brides is described as a contemporary reimagining of Dracula that focuses on the relationship between his three immortal wives and the lengths these women will go to maintain their wealth, prestige, and legacy.
Reis is set as Lily Stevens, an aspiring singer whose relationship with a news reporter threatens to tear apart her marriage to her fellow Brides of Dracula. She spent her former life on the streets of London during the time of Jack the Ripper.
Tatum will play Justine Strang, a newbie in town who arrives on the doorstep of modeling agent Renée Pélagie – another Bride of Dracula. Renée takes Justine under her wing, not knowing that Justine has a past with Dracula, too.
Mason will portray stylish real estate mogul Roland Grant. He arrives in town gunning for Cleo (Gina Torres).
The Brides is one of several dramas in contention at ABC for next season, joining thirtysomething sequel thirtysomething(else); family restaurant saga Harlem’s Kitchen; plane crash tale Wreckage; and legal drama Rebel, which stars Katey Sagal as an Erin Brockovitch-like figure. The network has a straight-to-series order in David E. Kelley PI drama The Big Sky, as well as decade-hopping medical drama Triage in development as a “second cycle” pilot.
