According to The Hollywood Reporter, ABC thirtysomething sequel pilot thirtysomething(else) has added Ambitions alum Kendrick Sampson.

Based on the acclaimed 1987-91 drama of the same name, with original series creators Edward Zwick and Marshall Herskovitz (Nashville) developing, thirtysomething(else) follows the thirtysomething children of the original cast, with Ken Olin, Mel Harris, Timothy Busfield, and Patty Wettig all set to reprise their roles.

Sampson will play young activist Brad, who formed a renters’ rights group in Philadelphia that has grown into a large nonprofit that helps the homeless and advocates for affordable housing. He’s the boyfriend of Michael and Hope’s daughter Janey (Odette Annable) and the two are facing their fear of commitment together.

thirtysomething(else) is one of several dramas in contention at ABC for 2020-21, joining plane crash saga Wreckage; gothic soap The Brides, about the complicated relationship between the wives of Dracula; family restaurant drama Harlem’s Kitchen; and Rebel, starring Katey Sagal as an Erin Brockovitch-like legal advocate. The network also has a straight-to-series order in David E. Kelley PI drama The Big Sky and a “second cycle” pilot order for decade-hopping medical drama Triage.

In addition to his role on the OWN drama, Sampson’s television credits include How to Get Away with Murder, The Flash, and The Vampire Diaries.
