In the episodes that we have seen of Naomi so far, a standout in the show has been the Lourdes character as played by Camila Moreno. A good friend and even a potential love interest, Lourdes is often the coolest person in the room with her unique style and vast knowledge of comic books. If only she knew what Naomi was truly capable of!

The new Naomi episode “Shadow Ridge” airs tonight on The CW (see pictures at our NaomiDCTV portal here), which makes it a great time to share a recent interview we had done with Camila Moreno, the talented actress who plays Lourdes. Enjoy!

Would Lourdes geek out if she knew all about what Naomi could do?

Would she geek out? She would geek out totally, but first, I think she would faint. She’s gonna need a moment to process it.

Would it especially blow her mind to find out that so many of these comic book icons are real, and that Dee has met them?

I can’t even imagine what her reaction would be, because this is her whole life, you know? So yeah, I think she would first faint, that’s for sure.

Are you a comic book fan at all yourself?

I’m sort of new to this world. I’m learning as I go.

Has anyone shown you the Naomi trade paperback collection?

Oh, yeah, I have it, and immediately after I read it, I was hooked. It’s a good story.

With so many CW superhero shows being on over the years, did you ever think you would be a part of one?

No. [Laughs] Absolutely not. But this is such a wonderful opportunity. I have to pinch myself to make sure that I’m not dreaming, because it’s insane that I get to live this experience. It is wonderful.

It’s a big deal to get picked for any role, but is there an added feeling of accomplishment knowing that Ava DuVernay thought that you were perfect?

Oh my God, yes! It’s everything you could imagine, and then more. I feel like the fact that I get to work with Ava DuVernay is just a dream come true, and a true honor. She’s a real life superhero.

How long does it take to do the Lourdes’ hair and makeup?

You know, it’s pretty quick, I have to say, because the hair is a wig. It doesn’t take that long. The makeup does take a little longer, because she has such intricate eyeliner styles, that it takes a while. But I love it so much. I love the process of it all.

Does going through that process help you become that character when you’re on screen?

Definitely, because she’s completely different physically from who I am. You know, I was joking that I didn’t know how much black I wear until I booked Lourdes, because she wears color for everything. So yeah, it’s definitely helped a lot.

What is your favorite thing about Lourdes as a character?

I love that she’s real. She’s the same wherever she goes, and she really appreciates being authentic, and she’s not afraid of that. I think in this world, you have to be very brave to present yourself as you are, without fear of being judged. I think that’s a superpower.

Do you think she has any kind of a rivalry with any of Naomi’s many love interests?

I don’t think so. I think she’s just very she’s very confident, and she attracts confident people around her. I mean, who knows, but I don’t I don’t think so. I think she’s just in it for the fun.

Are we going to meet any of her family in the first season?

We won’t get to meet any of her family in the first season.

Are we going to get any more backstory as to what made her drop out?

We will have to watch the show to find out!

How would you react if you were told that Lourdes is also an alien or a superhero?

I would faint as well. I mean, that would be incredible. That would be another dream come true.

Can you talk about what it’s like to work with Kaci Walfall?

Kaci is wonderful. She’s amazing. She’s such a talented person. It’s so hard to carry a show on your shoulders, but she’s so grateful, and she’s so kind to everyone on set, despite her working [so much]. Despite that, she has a magnetic energy, and she’s always happy to be there, and kind to everyone. She’s just a great human.

Do you think her personal attitude helps in how you portray Lourdes around Naomi?

I think they are both very confident people, and I think that’s what draws them together, and I think that’s what makes them such great friends. They’re both people that are authentic, and they attract people because of that.

Is there anyone in the cast that you’d really like the chance to work with more?

Honestly, everyone. Everyone has been so kind and welcoming. This is my first experience in a series regular role, and it’s been wonderful. I sometimes fall short on what words to use to describe how wonderful experience has been. But honestly, I would love to work with everyone again! I’m sorry if that’s like a cliche answer, but I just mean that in the best way possible.

Can you talk about any other projects you might be working on, or any interests that you have?

I think if I wasn’t an actor, I would totally be some sort of visual artist. I love art in all its shapes and forms. One of my hobbies is to make mosaics. It’s just very calming. I love being able to create something and get to put it in a wall. I think that’s wonderful. I have one that hadn’t finished, and I can’t wait to get home to Puerto Rico to finish it, and hang it up in the wall.

Have you seen any of the fan reactions to your character?

Yes, and it’s been wonderful! It’s been amazing.

Can you talk about your hopes for Naomi Season 2?

I’m open to the possibilities of what this story could go to. I am really invested in my character, and I love her relationships with her surrounding people. I’m open to whatever they have in mind.

Do you as a cast anxiously await the next scripts, the same way the fans are anticipating new episodes?

Yes, totally. I feel like I’m a fan myself, waiting for my favorite show to come out. What’s funny is, I know everything that happens, but whenever the episode airs, I feel like I’ve never seen it. I was there, and I know what’s gonna happen, but I’m just invested.

Do you have any final words you want to say to the fans who will be reading this?

Thank you for watching. This is my dream come true. I’m working on what I most love to do. Follow your dreams and your passions.

And for my last question: How long are we going to have to wait for Lourdes and Naomi to have a date already?

You’re gonna have to wait and see!
