The journey of Superman & Lois is almost over, with the final episode airing next week on December 2. But before we get to that, there’s a fantastic new episode titled “To Live and Die Again” airing at 8PM ET/PT on The CW TONIGHT (November 25)… and we were able to speak with writer/director Jai Jamison for some hints on what to expect. Several moments that fans have been waiting for (and maybe some they’ve been afraid of) are in this penultimate episode! Enjoy the interview, and be sure to go to KSiteTV’s Super-portal KryptonSite for some preview images before the show, and for a post-mortem to appear on the site after it airs!

KSITETV’S CRAIG BYRNE: Can you talk to about being back to write and direct the penultimate episode, and was it daunting to know what was next to last one?

JAI JAMISON: It was one of those things that was just a really amazing kind of culmination to this project for me.

I started as a staff writer on Day 1 in the room back in 2020, and over the course of all these years, I grew as a television writer and as a filmmaker, and grew to love these characters, and this crew, and everyone that I was working with So when Todd and Brent came to me and said “we would love to have you write and direct an episode” I was like “Cool!” I didn’t know when I agreed to it that it was going to be the penultimate.

Initially when we were first talking, it was supposed to be earlier in the season, and I was like “All right! This will be fun!” And then when I got the assignment, it said 409, and I was like, “oh, okay, penultimate… great!” All of the excitement but also the pressures that came with trying to deliver the penultimate episode of the series… not just the season, but the series. It was definitely daunting.

It probably helped that the cast and the crew already knew you.

100%. And I directed an episode last season…. that was my first episode of television that I directed. I didn’t write that one, but it was a pretty big episode. So, it was still daunting, but I had worked with the crew, with the cast, for so long. They knew me. I knew them. It was a lot easier to jump in and do what needed to be done.

How are the people in Smallville reacting to Lois’ TV appearance from last week?

The folks in Smallville are very much Team Lois and Superman, Lois and Clark Kent. They know them. We don’t know how things are playing out in terms of the broader community, but Lois is coming in, she’s losing advertisers [for the Smallville Gazette] and all of these [other] things coming into this episode. So, on the local front, the folks have got their back. But then, looking at the broader scope of where the Gazette is at and [how] it’s definitely affected Lois’ reputation and whatnot, it’s definitely taking a hit coming into tonight’s episode, and she’s got to figure out a way to to get her mojo back.

What’s going on with Amanda McCoy in this episode?

Amanda has been Lex’s Ride or Die for years now, and she helped execute a great plan that came to fruition in the last episode, to take down Lois and her reputation, but also get Lex geared up for his next moves. So, coming into it, Amanda and Lex are as close as they’ve been. They’re more of a partnership, coming into it… at least, that’s what Amanda thinks. This episode really delves into pointing out the cracks, or pointing out the potential folly of Amanda thinking that she and Lex are true partners.

Can you tease that there’s a returning character in this episode?

There is a returning character that is part of Lois getting her groove back, getting her mojo back. She has a little bit of an investigative run, and when you get to a dead end, you got to go back to the beginning. So, Lois has to go back to the beginning and figure out how she’s going to find a way to stop Lex’s continued plans.
