In early October, KSiteTV’s Craig Byrne and several other journalists headed to the Vancouver sets of The Secret Circle, where they were shooting a “Truth or Dare” scene in a cabin for an episode titled “Beneath.” The cabin, you saw at the end of last week’s show, and between the rain machines, and the remote location, it was a bit muddy outside. Fortunately we were able to hang out in the warm basement of the actual house that was used while the action was happening.

While we were there, we witnessed some of the Truth or Dare-ing, some of which you can see in the promotional photos from the episode. We also got to see Phoebe Tonkin getting drenched by the rain machines as she comes out of the house. Good thing for her she used to play a mermaid, and is probably used to these things.

Flash forward to now. It’s a month later, and the episode that we witnessed them shooting airs tonight at 9PM on The CW…. a perfect time to share our last interview from that trip, with Thomas Dekker (Adam), the young man torn between his destiny and the situation that he is currently in. What does Adam think of this predicament, and how does he feel Cassie is handling it? “It speaks a lot to Cassie’s moral structure that she feels very guilty about what she’s come in and sort of created, this trouble in paradise, as it were, for Diana and Adam. I think that says a lot about her. Neither she or I are wanting this particularly, we just kind of can’t help it,” Thomas says. So in the battle of free will and fate, which side is winning? “Their free will is to keep doing this, but when they’re in each other’s presence, it’s a fate thing, right? It’s a power. I don’t think it’ll ever go away. It just sort of is a question of ‘how much can we keep the beast at bay’,” he adds.

Beyond romantic entanglements, Adam Conant’s biggest relationship is that which he shares with his father, Ethan, played by Adam Harrington. Thomas tells us they’ve had a lot to do together, which he really likes. “I think it speaks volumes about my father and myself; the story that we’ve gotten to follow. It turns out, basically, that this is something I’ve heard from my father my whole life. So I knew this when she arrived, but of course, didn’t necessarily believe it. Now, of course, I do, but there also becomes a layer of resentment from me, is if my father felt this way so much about Amelia, then how did he feel about my mother? That’s when it starts to fray a little bit in our relationship,” he explains.

Ethan’s love for Amelia brings up another — but possibly gross — question. Is there any chance that Ethan could be Cassie’s father? “There’s an absolute possibility,” Thomas says, taking the bait. “As of now, that has not been presented or set forth in any way, but all of us on the crew and cast have been like ‘what if he’s her dad?’ I like that we who make the show, like to come up with theories about what’s going on, because we literally get the script the day before we start shooting,” he explains. However, Thomas doubts the show would go in that awkward direction, “I think it’s a whole other show if we get into that territory, but you can also ask yourself, if he was supposed to be with Amelia, then why am I supposed to be with her daughter? It’s all a big happy family,” he says.

Going back to Adam’s relationship with Diana – what would he do if Diana moved on and found someone else? “”I’ve thought about that, and I think that might very well happen,” he says. “I think he’d be devastated. This is something that we’re trying to really focus on in the show, is that yes, Cassie and Adam have this fate that they can’t fight, but that doesn’t mean that Diana and Adam don’t love each other. They really do. And that’s been a great struggle. It’s not like I was bored of my girlfriend, hot new girl arrived, great, I can dump her. It’s a very complex situation. These two people care immensely for each other, but there’s this tidal wave that’s crashing over and over.”
