Now that Lanterns is confirmed for an eight-episode series order on HBO, prolific DC Comics author Tom King has discussed his role with the show in a post on Instagram.

“Finally can talk about what I’ve been working on for the past year and more. From DC Studios and Warner Bros, we’re bringing Lanterns to HBO,” he wrote. “Chris, Damon, and I created it; Chris is writing and running it while Damon and I write and executive produce. I like to think of it as from the creators of Ozark, HBO’s Watchmen, and, of course, Batman meets Elmer Fudd.”

“We’re working with a dream team writer’s room, putting together something thrilling and epic and intimate and and grounded and funny and true—a super hero show that brings together the glories of the comics with the excellence of an HBO prestige drama,” King continued. “It’s such an honor to work on these characters, to build on what titans John Broome, Gil Kane, Denny O’Neil, and my old pal (and Batman/Fudd fan), Neal Adams created. We’re endlessly inspired by and grateful for the creativity of so many Lantern comic creators from 1940 to this Wednesday.”

He added a personal connection to his post as well. “On a personal level, my late mother was a Warner exec: being back on her lot, building something cool that she’d love—it feels real special.”

You can see Tom King’s post below.. Tom King, of course, has written some of DC Comics’ best titles in the past 15 years or so, including an acclaimed run on Batman, a Human Target mystery, The Omega Men (featuring a favorite Green Lantern in these parts – Kyle Rayner!), Mister Miracle, Wonder Woman, and a fantastic Adam Strange story with Strange Adventures. He also penned the Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow maxiseries which is the inspiration for an upcoming film, and last year, he wrote Danger Street which honestly should be a film or TV project. Over at Marvel, he wrote an acclaimed series about The Vision of Avengers fame. We are very excited to see what Tom King and the team bring to the Green Lanterns.
