The actor who will be playing Green Lantern John Stewart for the upcoming HBO series Lanterns has been found — and he has some DC TV in his past!

Aaron Pierre, who was seen as “Dev-Em” on Syfy’s Krypton, has landed the coveted role of John Stewart where he is expected to star opposite Kyle Chandler’s Hal Jordan character. John will be the younger Lantern with Hal Jordan being the older veteran.

Aaron Pierre has had a lot of success in the years since Krypton — he starred in the popular Netflix film Rebel Ridge and will even be voicing Mufasa in Disney’s upcoming Lion King prequel. He also starred as Malcolm X in a recent NatGeo Genius series.

A variation of John Stewart — who was the primary Green Lantern in the Justice League cartoons — came in the Arrowverse in the form of David Ramsey’s John Diggle. The series finale of Arrow even hinted that he was receiving a ring, though this was story was altered later when he guest starred on The Flash.
