NBC has announced that acclaimed comedy Superstore has been renewed for a fifth season.

“Week after week Justin Spitzer, our amazing writers, and cast and crew masterfully deliver a comedy that not only makes us laugh but speaks to the larger issues of the day,” said Lisa Katz and Tracey Pakosta, Co-Presidents of Scripted Programming, NBC Entertainment.

Superstore is averaging a 1.4 in Live + 7 demos, deriving 44% of its Live + 7 + Digital rating in adults 18-49 from non-linear sources, the second biggest percentage on the NBC schedule behind only Brooklyn Nine-Nine. The series continues to receive positive attention for its substantive look at a group of workers at Midwestern big box store and how it’s one of a select few shows featuring characters of a certain socio-economic status.

The Superstore renewal means that the series joins The Good Place, Will & Grace, and Brooklyn Nine-Nine on the 2019-20 schedule. This likely signals that the network will be keeping its four-comedy Thursday lineup for one more year, though it remains unclear whether they want to add another hour of comedy to their drama- and reality-heavy schedule or if one of The Good Place or Will & Grace will be pushed to midseason.

NBC comedies still awaiting word on their fate include fall newbie I Feel Bad, unlikely to return considering the network opted against ordering a back nine, as well as midseason entries A.P. Bio and Abby’s.

Superstore returns from hiatus Thursday, March 7th at 8:00 on NBC.
