When we last saw Supernatural, Sam and Dean were faced with their longtime ally Castiel thinking that he is the new God. Tonight at 9PM (ET) on The CW, we get to see what happens next as the Winchesters find their friend completely changed.

I made a comment in my review of the Nikita season premiere (which airs before Supernatural) that it felt like a good jumping on point. I feel the same about this. The Season 6 premiere was wrapped in the continuity of trying to get the brothers back together after the events of the Season 5 finale. This one – although it does pick up where Season 6 left off – it seems that all you need is the “Then…” montage of clips of what led to it with a classic rock song in the background, and you’re set.

With Cas off doing his Godly thing and smiting people, Sam and Dean aren’t completely alone. Bobby Singer, played by the extremely likable Jim Beaver, is back to help the boys and serve almost as a surrogate father figure. The Impala’s present too, though it has seen better days. Both Sam and Dean have new challenges as well… and although Sam may be [again] hiding things from Dean, Dean seems to hold out hope that his brother is okay. After all, everything else goes badly for them… why not something good for a change?

I think some of the moments in tonight’s episode might be controversial for some people, but to get people talking about what they saw is always a good thing. I can also guarantee that there will be surprises, even for the most die-hard and spoiler-hungry of Supernatural fans.

Again going back to something I said in my Nikita review – I’m going to miss having Smallville on Friday nights. But I’m glad that one of my other favorite parts of Fridays is still intact here.

Come to our forum and count down to tonight’s episode, talk about the show while it’s on, and then leave your opinions after it’s aired! I’ll be curious if others liked it as much as I did. If you’ve stepped away from the show for a while, or never even bothered, it is a great time to come back.
