Deadline is reporting that NBC has given the first series orders for the 2017-18 series to high school drama Rise and For God and Country, starring Under the Dome alum Mike Vogel.
Formerly known as Drama High, Rise follows high school drama teacher Lou Volpe (Josh Radnor) as he builds up the drama department at a working-class high school. Under his tutelage, his students discover a passion for the performing arts and soon enough, that enthusiasm reaches the town at large.
From Jason Katims (Friday Night Lights), Rise also stars Rosie Perez (White Men Can’t Jump), Marley Shelton (Pleasantville), and Shannon Purser (Stranger Things).
Penned by Dean Georgaris (Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life), For God and Country chronicles the lives of brave military heroes who execute dangerous missions behind enemy lines. The series was one of several military-themed vehicles in development for next season, though it’s unclear how many make it to series.
In addition to Vogel, For God and Country stars Anne Heche (Aftermath) and Tate Ellington (Quantico).
NBC is set to unveil its 2017-18 schedule on Sunday, May 14th, with its upfront presentation following on May 15th. The network will be picking up more projects in development in the coming days.
