NBC has opted to cancel fantasy series Emerald City after one 10-episode season. The journey Emerald City took to the screen wasn’t too far removed from the journey across worlds its main character went, as the series was first put ordered straight to series in August 2013 with filming scheduled for 2014. However, NBC rescinded the series order following creative differences with its original showrunner, only to give the show another series order in April 2015. The series, fairly off-brand for a network whose bread and butter is character procedurals, eventually touched down on Fridays for a quiet run earlier this year.

Based on the Oz book series by L. Frank Baum, adapted for television by Matthew Arnold (Siberia), and showran by David Schulner (Desperate Housewives), Emerald City followed 20-year-old Dorothy Gale (Adria Arjona) as she finds herself transported to the mysterious Land of Oz from her home in Kansas. Once there, she sets about finding the Wizard, not knowing that her presence in Oz fulfills a prophecy that could have devastating fallout.

In addition to Arjona, Emerald City starred Joely Richardson (Nip/Tuck), Ana Ularu (Outbound), Oliver Jackson-Cohen (Dracula), Mido Hamada (Homeland), and Vincent D’Onofrio (Daredevil).

The series finale of Emerald City aired Friday, March 3rd on NBC. The network will be revealing its fall 2017 schedule on Sunday, May 14th, with its official upfront presentation the following day.
