The revival we’ve long been saying should be a thing is actually happening!

UCP is developing an update of Punky Brewster, still starring Soleil Moon Frye as the iconic character she played from 1984-1987 on NBC and in syndication. This time around, according to Deadline, Punky is “a single mother of three trying to get her life back on track when she meets a young girl who reminds her a lot of he younger self.”

Susan Brewster didn’t run off on another kid, did she?

Soleil Moon Frye will be an Executive Producer on the series along with original series creator David W. Duclon. The multi-camera follow-up will be written and executive produced by Steve and Jim Armogida (School of Rock, Grounded For Life). Also executive producing will be Jimmy Fox of Main Event Media, an All3Media America company.

It’s a shame George Gaynes isn’t alive to see this… but Punky will finally find her mom this time around, right?
