Deadline is reporting that CW small town pilot The Republic of Sarah has cast Landry Bender (Looking for Alaska), New Amsterdam‘s Ian Duff, and Forrest Goodluck (The Miseducation of Cameron Post).
From Jeffrey Paul King (Elementary), The Republic of Sarah centers on high school history teacher Sarah Cooper (Stella Baker) as she utilizes an obscure cartographical loophole to declare her small town an independent nation instead of letting it fall into the hands of a greedy mining company. If ordered, the series would follow Sarah attempting to build a country from scratch with the help of a young band of misfits.
Bender will play preppy and composed Bella, the mayor’s daughter who begins to question her “popular girl” status after an unpleasant sexual encounter.
Duff is set as damaged Grover, a straightforward, blue collar guy who works at the local diner and has a mutual crush on Sarah. However, his painful past keeps him from pursuing anything romantic.
Goodluck will portray shy, introspective Tyler, whose years growing up on a Native American reservation have toughened him up. When he begins working alongside Sarah, he makes an unexpected connection with Bella.
They join a cast that includes Luke Mitchell, Izabella Alvarez, Nia Holloway, and Hope Lauren.
The Republic of Sarah is one of four traditional pilots in development at The CW, joining political drama Maverick, martial arts saga Kung Fu, and the network’s third attempt at The Lost Boys. The CW also has straight-to-series orders for Superman & Lois and Walker, Texas Ranger reboot Walker, as well as backdoor pilots that would spinoff Arrow and The 100 if ordered.
