Deadline is reporting that ABC’s Kyra Sedgwick multi-cam My Village has added Rachel Sennott (Shiva Baby), Joey Bragg (Father of the Year), Emma Caymares (Fosse/Verdon), and Austin Crute (Daybreak).
From Kari Lizer (The New Adventures of Old Christine), My Village follows Jean (Sedgwick), an empty-nester mom who takes the sudden quiet around her house harder than expected. Left wondering how she ended up alone, she decides to pack up her life and reinsert herself into the lives of her adult children, who live thousands of miles away. Initially annoyed at the lack of space given to them by their mother, her children soon realize that they needed her more than they thought.
Sennott will play Jean’s oldest child Jackie, a wry, sarcastic workaholic who holds her emotions close to the vest and uses her sense of humor to mask her deeply embedded trust issues.
Bragg will portray Jean’s youngest child Freddie, a handsome, sensitive video game developer who has a girlfriend, his own apartment, and a strong connection with his mother.
Caymares is set as Freddie’s social media influencer girlfriend Celia, a pretty, business savvy young woman whose confidence edges into vanity and whose ambitions top out at reality TV stardom. She and Jean don’t see eye to eye on much of anything.
Crute will be seen as Jackie’s roommate Lane, a gay Midwesterner who looks as Jean as a surrogate mother since his parents stopped talking to him after he came out.
My Village is one of several comedy pilots in contention at ABC for next season, joining Adopted, about a Green Beret who’s family adopts a young Russian boy; Home Economics, centering on three siblings from three socioeconomic classes; Prospect, which follows a young woman who moves to the frontier to teach school; Valley Trash, about a blue collar family whose daughter gets into a Los Angeles private school; Work Wife, inspired by the relationship between Kelly Ripa and Ryan Seacrest; and an untitled comedy from Emily Kapnek about a teenage girl whose life is turned upside down when she discovers a family secret.
