ABC has given a pilot order to an untitled comedy centered on a Chinese-American family, it was announced today.

From Emmy winner Jessica Gao (Rick & Morty), the series follows first generation Janet Zhao whose unhealthy boundaries with her family are tested when her wealthy grandmother dies, leaving her the sole inheritor. Per The Hollywood Reporter, its working title is Lazy Rich Asians, a play on Oscar nominated film Crazy Rich Asians.

This is one of two Chinese-American family comedies in development this season, with the other being CBS’s The Emperor of Malibu. From Crazy Rich Asians author Kevin Kwan, that series follows the engagement between the son of a Chinese billionaire and an American woman and what happens when his family descends upon the couple to try and win their son back.

This latest comedy joins a pilot slate for ABC that includes a possible Black-ish prequel focusing on Bow’s early years; Nana, a multi-cam/hybrid starring Katey Sagal; an untitled Leslie Odom Jr. comedy about a married couple who work as pastors; multi-cultural family comedy United We Fall
