CRAIG: 8:00 The Gifted; 9:00 Untitled series starring Katie Holmes
SHILO: 8:00 9-1-1; 9:00 Gone Baby Gone
CRAIG: The Gifted is one of FOX’s best assets that hasn’t quite taken off the way that it should. It’ll also be curious to see what kind of a future the show has when/if the Disney deal goes through. If the powers that be know what’s good for them, they’d say that this new, merged Marvel universe started with this show. With that said, I think the series needs a big launch and a good timeslot in order to sustain. I still think “X-Men” should be added to the show’s title, but those decisions are from wiser folks than myself. Following The Gifted I have FOX’s untitled Ilene Chaiken-Melissa Scrivener Love project starring Katie Holmes, which would also be a coup for the network. It sounds almost like a FOX type version of The Good Wife, with a lead actress who has been watched and enjoyed by a generation of fans.
SHILO: 9-1-1 became the surprise midseason breakout this year, its stellar cast and high-octane storytelling garnering buzz on social media, an early renewal, and ratings just a hair behind ABC medical drama The Good Doctor. With season two having an expanded episode count, the show will be making its fall debut, while Monday is the day that makes the most scheduling (and logistical) sense. Like with Sunday, there’s nothing in development that screams out to be paired with 9-1-1, so there’s a realistic chance that FOX pulls an Empire and keeps the show at 9:00 to please the affiliates. However, this is their best chance to launch a new drama next year, so I think they’ll end up going with fellow procedural Gone Baby Gone, based on the Dennis Lehane novel that also inspired the Amy Ryan movie of the same name. Though FOX could go with something like The Passage and make Mondays a popcorn TV night, I think they try to broaden out their drama slate and go with another repeatable, casual-friendly show that can monetize itself through traditional ratings measures.

“As far as midseason, I think they either put out a third season of music competition The Four, which moved to Thursday this summer following a successful midseason run on Wednesdays, or return to a two drama lineup.”
The Four run on Thursdays for its first season too. The X-Files and 9-1-1 were on Wednesdays this winter on FOX.
