Most Surprising Possible Renewal: Revenge would certainly surprise me, but Forever would surprise me even more. I think it’s a solid player, but just – for whatever reason, possibly the timeslot – hasn’t taken hold like it should. As you wrote in your column, I’d love to see it somewhere else if ABC passes on Season 2. Another one that would surprise me would be Cristela; if it is done, I hope they find something new (and maybe better) for Cristela Alonso, because she was a highlight of last year’s press tour. I also would be a little surprised to see a Round 2 for Agent Carter, not necessarily because it did badly, moreso because it’s got to be expensive, and Marvel has other/more projects to trot out.
Possible Biggest Surprise: Could any of ABC’s new pilots outdo the buzz that How To Get Away with Murder and FOX’s Empire had last year? In this day and age, it’s hard for broadcast to pull that off, but it’d be a pleasant surprise, for sure.
Safest Bet: The Catch. Because Shonda.
Biggest Need: ABC needs to build its next generation of hits. Some like Castle and Grey’s have been on a very long time, and when they’re done, those timeslots will need to be filled with shows that catch on in the same way. Sundays could also be in danger as Once Upon A Time ages.
