last man standingFRIDAY

CRAIG: 8:00 Last Man Standing; 8:30 Chevy; 9:00 Shark Tank; 10:00 20/20
SHILO: 8:00 Last Man Standing; 8:30 Delores & Jermaine; 9:00 Shark Tank; 10:00 20/20

CRAIG: There was a temptation to put Delores & Jermaine in here, but then I think: ABC is not going to pass up on the chance of a Tim Allen/Chevy Chase pairing hour, are they? So, there ya go. Second shortest explanation ever.

SHILO: At this point, I’m not sure that launching something new after Last Man Standing is a great idea. But with Cristela likely on the way out, ABC will look for something to do what Man Up, Malibu Country, The Neighbors (RIP), and Cristela could not do – hold enough of the Last Man lead-in to justify a renewal. Chevy would honestly be a perfect choice if it were multi-cam, but I’m hopeful that ABC wouldn’t put a single cam after a multi-cam, even if otherwise they seem like a pretty decent match. Therefore, I went with Delores & Jermaine, which stars Whoopi Goldberg as a tough former cop who allows her grandson to move in with her after he gets kicked out of his father’s house. Not only does Goldberg have a long history with ABC as one of the hosts of The View, she’s playing a character that sounds not far removed from Tim Allen’s Mike Baxter, making this more than the loose “two famous people you know from other places” connection that Allen and Reba McEntire had in 2012-2013. As long as ABC is open to having two comedies with primarily black casts on at the same time, I think Delores & Jermaine might be their best shot at finding a Friday comedy that sticks.
