SHILO: 8:00 Grey’s Anatomy; 9:00 Station 19; 10:00 How to Get Away with Murder
CRAIG: 8:00 Grey’s Anatomy; 9:00 Get Christie Love; 10:00 How to Get Away with Murder
SHILO: ABC cancelling Station 19 could change the very complexion of their schedule, including when and where they launched new dramas, how they handled The Good Doctor, and where the likes of How to Get Away with Murder ended up. However, after a mediocre midseason when it comes to scripted dramas, Station 19 is A) at the top of the ABC ratings pack and B) bolstered by its connection to Grey’s and producer Shonda Rhimes. With Station 19 producing decent ratings and buzz, I think that ABC will renew it before repushing it in the fall. It’s not going to follow the trajectory of fellow Shonda drama Scandal, which eked out a second season renewal before using social media word-of-mouth to become a ratings giant, but if Station 19 can be steady and jump whenever ABC decides to cross it over with its parent show, I think the network will take it as a victory. Especially if it helps prime audiences for the procedural turn the network’s development is going to take.
CRAIG: ABC Thursdays at 9 have been tied to a strong woman for the last few years, which is why I’m filling the Scandal slot with Get Christie Love. It’s definitely not a “TGIT relationship show,” but I think it would be dangerous to even try that. (Remember Notorious?) I can see giving Station 19 a second round, but for now, this is what I’ve got.
