SHILO: 8:00 Dancing with the Stars; 10:00 The Good Doctor
CRAIG: Affiliates surely like their Good Doctor lead-in, and it pairs well with Dancing with the Stars. I didn’t expect the show to do as well as it did, but it did, so there’s no need to make any moves. I may have said it’s sometimes fun to take risks, but sometimes it’s also smart to play it safe.
SHILO: I understand the desire to move The Good Doctor, as it’s a buzzy show with gargantuan non-linear numbers that could become the next drama cornerstone for ABC. However, ABC’s scheduling configuration is such that it would take Dancing with the Stars moving to Sundays (which won’t happen) or shrinking to an hour (which wouldn’t happen after the shortened Athletes season this spring) for it to get out of the 10:00 hour. Plus, with the network having trouble at 10:00 over the past couple of seasons, I could see them opting to keep The Good Doctor at 10:00 for the affiliates while being more aggressive on other nights.
