Last week here at KSiteTV, we shared an interview with Nancy Drew showrunners Noga Landau and Melinda Hsu Taylor where they teased last week’s Nancy Drew season finale. Now, as we have a Friday without a new Drew, and with fans anxiously anticipating Season 4 news (#RenewNancyDrew please!), today felt like a good day to share the rest of our interview, some of which might have been a bit too spoilery last week.
Can you tease what that cliffhanger means?
MELINDA: In the event of a Season 4, if we’re so fortunate as to get one, that will be a launching point for a longer supernatural mystery arc that’s going to continue bringing threats together such as “what’s Ryan up to with those strange people who just moved to town?” And is there a connection to some of the things that we’ve already seen planted in Season 3? Which the answer is yes. I think it’s kind of exciting to have Nancy launch on a big case where there are stakes for the town, but it also puts her to the test as a detective.
How much or how important was it for you to get Nancy’s office sign in into the finale?
NOGA: It was very important. I really want to give props to our production designer, James Hazell, and our graphics designer Rainbow who worked really hard and really quickly to design this whole new sign logo for Nancy, and did it by paying homage to the colors of the classic Nancy Drew books. It signifies a new chapter in Nancy’s life that we’re really excited about.
Can you talk about the visual effects of the tsunami sequence?
NOGA: It’s definitely [one of] the most complicated shots we’ve ever done on the show, and it’s some of the most gorgeous work that’s been done. [Visual effects company CoSA VFX] CoSA built everything! They built the look of the wave and the destruction, how it rips off the propeller monument that sits right at the shore of Horseshoe Bay, and it takes down all of the electrical wires, and the lights, and cars that get swept up in it. It’s amazing what CoSA built for that sequence.
What can fans do to help ensure that Season 4 happens?
MELINDA: The fans have been so great about retweeting the hashtag #RenewNancyDrew and they have really rallied around the show by watching it live… we love it when people watch live! We also really love it when they watch on HBO Max and CWTV.com. All forms of support are gratefully welcomed.
You heard it! #RenewNancyDrew! Our thanks to the executive producers for participating in this interview.
