Entertainment Weekly is reporting that CBS has given back eight orders to Man with a Plan and Superior Donuts, bringing the episode count for each sophomore comedy to 21.

The move isn’t a surprise considering that Man with a Plan is owned by CBS and a solid retainer of Kevin Can Wait‘s audience and similarly owned Superior Donuts, the only CBS comedy to feature a POC main character, perked up once the network gave it a stronger lead-in than 9JKL. With 9JKL only getting a three episode back order and midseason comedy Living Biblically eyeing a spring premiere, Man and Donuts were needed to keep the Monday comedy bloc in tact and get their episode counts that much closer to syndication territory.

From Jeff and Jackie Filgo (That ’70s Show), Man with a Plan tells the story of Adam Burns (Matt LeBlanc), a father who realizes that parenting is more difficult than he thought after his wife Andi (Liza Snyder) goes back to work, leaving him with more responsibility in taking care of their three children.

Based on the 2008 play from Tracy Letts, Superior Donuts revolves around the relationship between donut shop owner Arthur Przybyszewski (Judd Hirsch) and employee Franco Wicks (Jermaine Fowler), an aspiring artist looking to help the struggling shop where he and his father used to always get donuts.

Man with a Plan airs Mondays and 8:30 on CBS, with Superior Donuts following at 9:00.
