The CW has officially cancelled cancer dramedy Life Sentence after one season, series star Lucy Hale announced today.
The news doesn’t come as much of a surprise given the show’s soft ratings that subsequently got it sent to Fridays at 9:00. Renewal for a show about terminal illness was always going to be an uphill battle, particularly on The CW, and where Life Sentence doesn’t have the individual Netflix deal that Dynasty did and hasn’t generated the type of conversation/acclaim that fellow dramedies Crazy Ex-Girlfriend and Jane the Virgin did, The CW ultimately found it expendable.
From Erin Cardillo and Richard Keith (Significant Mother), Life Sentence
In addition to Hale, Life Sentence starred Elliot Knight (Once Upon a Time), Jayson Blair (The New Normal), Brooke Lyons (2 Broke Girls), Carlos PenaVega (Big Time Rush), Gillian Vigman (Suburgatory), and Dylan Walsh (The Good Wife).
The series finale of Life Sentence is set to air next month on The CW.
