Deadline is reporting that The CW’s Riverdale spinoff pilot Katy Keene has added From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series alum Zane Holtz and Dynasty‘s Katherine LaNasa. Holtz will play ambitious boxer K.O. Kelly, a salt-of-the-earth guy who makes a living as a personal trainer and bouncer and dreams of proposing to his girlfriend Katy, while LaNasa is set as impeccably dressed personal shopper Gloria Grandbilt, who demands the best from the assistants she’s taken under her wing.
Described as a musical dramedy that takes place following the events of Riverdale, Katy Keene follows Veronica’s 20-something fashionista friend Katy and her aspiring artist friends in New York City as they try to make it on Broadway, on the runway, and in the recording studio. This marks the second spinoff of Riverdale, joining Netflix’s Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, which was previously in development at The CW before the streamer gave it a two-season order. Katy Keene hails from Riverdale creator Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and Michael Grassi.
In addition to his role on the El Rey drama, Holtz’s television credits include White Famous, Make It or Break It, and NCIS, while LaNasa has appeared on the likes of Imposters, Satisfaction, and Deception. They join a cast that features Lucy Hale (Pretty Little Liars), Camille Hyde (American Vandal), Lucien Laviscount (Scream Queens), Jonny Beauchamp (Penny Dreadful), Julia Chan (Saving Hope), and Ashleigh Murray (Riverdale).
Katy Keene is part of a CW pilot slate that includes Jane the Virgin spinoff Jane the Novela; DC-verse spinoff Batwoman; new takes on Nancy Drew and The Lost Boys; and Glamorous, centering on a gender non-conforming YouTuber who stumbles into a job at a cosmetics company.
