The experience of watching a taping of NBC’s Undateable is an interesting one: Generally, the first takes do the scenes as they were scripted; and then the later takes involve some improvisation from the real-life comedians that make up the cast. Often times, the improvised later takes get a bit dirty; many times, those later takes are also hilarious.

Undateable - Season PilotTonight, Undateable is airing live on both coasts, with a special that includes Scrubs alums, Minnie Driver, Ed Sheeran, and more… but, of course, with only one take available, things might be a little different in the presentation. “I can’t imagine we could do that,” Chris D’Elia told us a few weeks back, about whether or not improvising will play a part in tonight’s live show. “I don’t think so. I’ll tell you one thing, we’ll definitely mess up,” he laughed.

D’Elia’s costar, Brent Morin, who plays Justin, agreed. “That’s for sure. We’ll mess up, and I think out of instinctual panic, we’ll end up improvising. It’ll be like a monologue, cut to commercial, come back, [and the] monologue’s still going on,” he said.

“There’s going to be a whole new story about how Danny’s killed somebody,” D’Elia joked.

In any event, the Undateable live episodes will be airing at 9PM on the East Coast, and then again with a second performance at 9PM on the West Coast. If all goes well, we’ll be tweeting @KSiteTV from the studio.
