Now that the “Baby” episode of Supernatural is in the rear-view mirror, we can share more of our interview with actors Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles from the Supernatural sets in Vancouver, British Columbia.
“It was certainly different and unique,” Ackles recalled about the episode that aired last week.
“It was the first ever, in the 200-something episodes, that we shot like that. It was a brand new style,” Padalecki enthused.
“We’ve done things that have, for us, seemed similar to that, but certainly have never shot an entire show like that,” Ackles said. “It was a bit of a learning curve, and I think
“Baby” also brought Matt Cohen back as the younger John Winchester — or someone who looks like him, at least.
“I love Matt,” Jared praised. “Supernatural is such a unique show, because even though he hasn’t been on the show in like five years, we still see each other several times a year. I don’t see my brother five times, ten times a year, but I see a lot of our guest cast that has been on the show…. he’s a buddy, he just became a dad… most of the time, they call ‘cut’ and we’ll be like ‘So what’s going on? How’s the baby? How’s the wife?’ But it was great, because I only had maybe two scenes with him other than this scene in ‘Baby.’ I had a little bit when we showed up at the door and it’s Dad and Mom… okay, I had a few more than two scenes with him… but it was fun for me to play that part of Sam. Sam’s not often really caught off guard like that, and he’s been through a lot. He’s been to Hell, and to Heaven, and Purgatory, and he’s died, and killed… so, Sam’s not often caught totally off guard, so that was a fun kind of direction for me to go with him,” he said.
Turning the attention to Jensen Ackles, the actor was asked about Dean’s bond with Amara. What’s going on there?
“We will see that relationship a little bit more and see what exactly that relationship is,” Ackles promised. “I don’t think that he knows what to make of it. I don’t think it’s really clear to him… I’m not sure that he understands the connection. Obviously, there’s a mark issue, that’s probably the connection, and also that he was the ‘lock and the key’ type of thing of releasing her…. obviously, that connection, but what it all means and how it’s all going to tie in to his destiny and his future, and what that means for the brothers, he’s very nervous about. Obviously, it’s something that he’s going to be hiding, those nerves; but we will see it get fleshed out.”
“Dean hiding his nerves? Whaaaat?” Padalecki responded.
How long will he hide it from Sam? “To be determined. Don’t know yet,” Ackles replied.
