Buenos Aires-born singer, actor, model and director Juan Pablo Di Pace has joined the cast of TNT’s Dallas for the third season as Nicolas Treviño, the man that in Season 2 we occasionally heard referred to as “Joaquin.” Nicolas is Cliff Barnes’ proxy at the new Ewing Global, and his presence is going to cause some drama for the Ewings.

We were able to speak with Juan Pablo at our recent visit to the Dallas set. Here’s the video:

Screen Shot 2014-02-26 at 4.51.27 PM“He’s definitely not a transparent character, which is really fun to play, for me,” Di Pace says of Nicolas. “He comes across as charming, and sweet, but yeah: he has to survive. He’s a character with a past, and he’s very resourceful. The way I think about him is almost like an actor. He’s a guy who takes every situation and turns it into whatever he needs it to be. With one person he would be one way, and with another person he would be a completely different way to get what he wants.”

Even with only one episode in, we can tell that Nicolas is a character who is full of secrets. Are there secrets that may surprise even Elena? “Maybe,” Juan Pablo teased. “Perhaps. You’ll have to see! There’s a wonderful relationship with Elena. Our relationship is really lovely in the script. It’s very different from every other relationship in the show. That’s a very nice storyline.”

Dallas is new again Monday, March 3 at 9PM on TNT.
