Being able to survive in the world of conning is all about caution. You have to dole out only the information your marks need to know and nothing more, while having your story straight and not going off book are essential to a clean escape; you want to get in and get out without increasing the chances of being found out, all the while concocting a believable identity that doesn’t rush the process when it doesn’t have to. However, caution isn’t something that Maddie can afford right now, not when the man she was falling for turned out to be in the FBI and not when her most trusted confidante gave up their shared ally. Maddie wants out of the life that she’s created for herself, a distrustful life where it’s easy to lose hold of one’s true identity amid trying on a series of different masks, and finds herself willing to take on a risky plan, ex-marks in tow, in order to make that happen. But once the day of her wedding to Patrick arrives, will she be able to go through with everything as planned?
On the season finale of Imposters, Maddie’s latest wedding day brings about the type of tension that none of her previous nuptials did, as the plan to swipe the FBI’s money and lead The Doctor to slaughter gets underway. Not only does she have to keep up the Saffron façade around those who aren’t in the know about her and Patrick’s mutual deception, Maddie must keep Patrick convinced that she’s no threat as a result of her witness protection deal; she has to wave the white flag loudly and proudly whenever he’s around, all the while facilitating the plan meant to make her and her former marks $500,000 richer by the end of the day. The plan succeeding would be the best case scenario for Maddie, as it gets her out from under The Doctor’s thumb while giving her enough money for the fresh start she so desperately desires. She knows how to live on the run/off the grid, so Patrick coming after her wouldn’t be the end of the world, and she’s been able to reinvent herself enough times that it’s conceivable she could hide in plain sight, Patrick’s FBI resources be damned. However, drawing The Doctor out into public and playing around with the FBI could have serious (and possibly fatal) blowback if the plan isn’t executed to perfection, blowback that would be squarely on Maddie’s shoulders for leading her former “loves” into a dangerous situation from which they wouldn’t be able to get out.
The season finale of Imposters airs Tuesday at 10:00 on Bravo.
Will Maddie be able to get out of the conning life if the plan goes as she hopes it will? What happens if something goes wrong and The Doctor becomes aware that Maddie and company are trying to bait him? If given the opportunity, would Patrick look the other way and allow Maddie to escape FBI custody?
