Netflix announced on Monday the acquisition of Paramount Network dramedy Emily in Paris.
“MTV Studios and I couldn’t hope for a more perfect home for Emily in Paris than Netflix,” series creator Darren Star said. “With their international reach, we are excited to share Emily with audiences around the world.”
Emily in Paris was originally ordered with the intention of Paramount Network fielding a dramedy lineup that included TV Land hit Younger and a First Wives Club series adaptation from Girls Trip writer Tracy Oliver. However, the idea was eventually abandoned with the former staying at its original network and the latter moving to streamer BET+. With Yellowstone one of the major successes on basic cable, and ViacomCBS embracing selling off content they produce to third-parties, Paramount opted to build their scripted slate around more male-skewing fare while allowing its corporate parent to profit off an already produced season.
In addition to Collins, the series stars Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu (Call My Agent), Lucas Bravo (Smart Ass), Samuel Arnold (Platane), Camille Razat (The 15:17 to Paris), and Bruno Gouery (Doc Martin).
