TV Line is reporting that Ugly Betty alum Becki Newton has joined the second season of HBO comedy Divorce. She’ll be playing successful realtor Jackie, who gets involved with Thomas Haden Church’s Robert.
From Sharon Horgan (Catastrophe), Divorce chronicles the dissolution of the marriage between aspiring art gallery owner Frances (Sarah Jessica Parker) and disgruntled contractor Robert (Church). After an unusual incident at a friend’s party, Frances realizes that she doesn’t want to continue the life she built for herself and moves to separate from Robert, only for him to confront her over an extramarital affair that he found out about. The first season followed the two through arbitration, counseling, and attempts to figure out who they are away from their marriage, with the finale culminating in custody issues that will likely set the tone for the forthcoming second season.
In addition to her role on the ABC dramedy, Newton has appeared on the likes of How I Met Your Mother, The Goodwin Games, and Weird Loners. She’s the second new addition to Divorce in as many days, as Steven Pasquale (Rescue Me) will be playing Andrew, a friend of Nick’s who gets set up with Frances.
Divorce is part of a robust HBO comedy slate that includes Veep, Silicon Valley, Ballers, Vice Principals, Curb Your Enthusiasm, Insecure, High Maintenance, Crashing, Tracey Ullman’s Show, and The Comeback.
The second season of Divorce, which was part of my top 25 shows of 2016, is set to premiere early next year on HBO.
