AMC has announced that Joy Nash (The Mindy Project) has landed the lead in upcoming drama Dietland. She’ll be playing Plum Kettle, a woman whose preparation for her impending lap-band surgery is interrupted by two rival feminist factions.
Based on the Sarai Walker novel of the same name and developed for television by Marti Noxon (Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce), described as part-character drama, part-revenge fantasy set against the backdrop of the beauty industry. The series will look to explore society’s obsession with weight loss and body image through a darkly comedic lens.
In addition to her role on the FOX-turned-Hulu romantic comedy, Nash has appeared on the likes of The Fosters, Casual, and Twin Peaks. She’s the first person to be officially cast in the project, which was given a straight-to-series order last month.
The 10-episode first season of Dietland is set to premiere next year on AMC. The series will join a scripted slate for AMC that includes Humans, The Walking Dead, and Into the Badlands.
