Variety is reporting that Boardwalk Empire alum Vincent Piazza has joined FOX mob drama pilot The Cleaning Lady.
Based on Argentinian series La chica que limpia, with Miranda Kwok (The 100) adapting for American television, The Cleaning Lady centers on whip-smart Filipina doctor Reyna Salonga (Shannyn Sossamon) as she comes to the United States looking for medical treatment for her critically ill son. When she is confronted with the realization that the American health care system has failed her, Reyna gets a job working as a cleaning lady for the mob, thinking that this will allow her to pay for her son’s treatment. Soon enough, though, she finds a sense of purpose she didn’t know she was missing.
Piazza will play FBI Special Agent Gavin Ross, an intelligent, compassionate man searching for purpose after a recent personal loss.
The Cleaning Lady is one of just four drama pilots in contention at FOX for 2020-21, joining underdog dance ensemble The Big Leap; Blood Relative, a procedural centering on a pioneer in the field of genetic genealogy (Melissa Leo); and an untitled series following a substitute teacher as she helps some of her students produce a shot-for-shot remake of The Goonies.
In addition to his role on the HBO drama, Piazza’s television credits include The Passage, Rescue Me, and The Sopranos.
