According to The Hollywood Reporter, Viacom has abandoned plans to move TV Land standout Younger to Paramount Network. Instead, the well-received Sutton Foster dramedy will be staying put and airing its upcoming sixth season the same place its previous five seasons did.
The move comes after Younger put together its highest-rated season in the 18-49 demo, momentum that Viacom likely doesn’t want to disrupt for fear of weakening one of its strongest scripted series. Originally, the thinking was that the show would move to Paramount Network and be used to help launch fellow dramedy Emily in Paris, which just found its lead in Lily Collins.
It’s quite the reversal for TV Land, which stopped accepting scripted pitches and cancelled or concluded everything remaining on its scripted slate that wasn’t Younger. There’s no indication that the network will open itself back up to scripted programming now that Younger is back in the fold, but it speaks to the disorganization and second-guessing that has plagued Viacom’s recalibration and specifically the Paramount Network rebrand.
