Syfy has announced that cult drama Wynonna Earp has been renewed for a fourth season, set to premiere in 2019.
The news marks the third consecutive year that the series, which draws comparisons to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has been renewed at Comic-Con. Since its debut in 2016, Wynonna Earp has amassed a loyal and vocal fanbase thanks to its queer representation and portrayal of strong, complicated female characters, making Comic-Con an ideal place for Syfy to renew it. While the show has never been a ratings hit, it’s very much a brand asset for Syfy (and its recent fan-focused rebrand) and something they can use to curry favor with genre fans.
Based on the comic series from Beau Smith, Wynonna Earp stars Melanie Scrofano (Letterkenny) as the great-great-granddaughter of infamous gunslinger Wyatt Earp, tasked with defeating the reincarnated outlaws her relative killed during his time as lawman. Season three finds Wynonna and company banding together to take on Bulshar, the demon who originally cursed the Earp bloodline, before he destroys the Ghost River Triangle once and for all.
Wynonna Earp joins a scripted slate for Syfy that includes Killjoys, Channel Zero, The Magicians, Krypton, Happy!, Z Nation, and Van Helsing, with the network set to premiere George R. R. Martin drama Nightflyers this fall.
Season three of Wynonna Earp airs Fridays at 9:00 on Syfy. You can check out a season trailer below.
