FOX has given a series order to What Just Happened??!, a scripted satire of television aftershows in the vein of Talking Dead.
From Fred Savage, Dave Jeser, and Matt Silverstein (Grandfathered), What Just Happened??! is a half-hour comedy/talk hybrid dedicated to analyzing The Flare, a fictional drama series based on fictional post-apocalyptic book The Moon is the Sun at Night, which follows how a solar event impacts a small Michigan town. Savage will play a super-fan of the book who serves as host of What Just Happened??!, which will feature sit-down celebrity interviews, set visits to the fake drama The Flare, and interviews with the latter’s “cast,” on top of discussions with fans and more.
Set to premiere Sunday, June 30th at 9:30, What Just Happened??! is the second scripted series to land on the FOX summer schedule, joining the meta Beverly Hills, 90210 reboot that was announced in February. FOX will also be airing plenty of reality series this summer in the form of So You Think You Can Dance, MasterChef, Paradise Hotel, Beat Shazam, and Spin the Wheel.
Additional casting for What Just Happened??! should be announced in the coming weeks.
Will you be watching? Is this the type of scripted content you expected from New FOX? What aspects of TV aftershows would you like to see the show make fun of?
