Amazon has announced that an adaptation of fantasy novel series The Wheel of Time has been ordered to series.
“The Wheel of Time is endlessly fascinating and resonates hugely with fans as one of the best-selling global properties, and we were drawn to its timely narrative featuring powerful women at the core,” said Amazon’s Jennifer Salke. “We’re thrilled to extend our relationship with devotees who’ve found the book series transformative and welcome new ones by bringing it to life on Prime Video for viewers worldwide.”
Based on the novel series from Robert Jordan and Brandon Sanderson, with Rafe Judkins (Agents of SHIELD) set as showrunner, The Wheel of Time is set in a world where magic exists but only women can use it. The series, said to draw upon elements of Buddhism and Hinduism, will follow a member of shadowy organization Aes Sedai as she tries to find the reincarnation of a figure that could save the world – or destroy it.
The Wheel of Time is the second fantasy drama ordered by Amazon recently, joining fellow literary adaptation Carnival Row, which stars Orlando Bloom and Cara Delevingne. It’s the latest fantasy series to land a series adaptation, following the likes of The Shannara Chronicles and The Magicians.
