Deadline is reporting that CSI: NY star Melina Kanakaredes has signed on to upcoming FOX medical drama The Resident. She’ll be playing Dr. Lane Hunter, a brilliant, warm oncologist who is at the top of her field in the state of Georgia. However, despite the exceptional relationships she fosters with her patients, there’s a complexity in Dr. Hunter that would (and will) surprise everyone she knows.
From Amy Holden-Jones (Black Box), The Resident tells the story of a tough senior resident who guides an idealistic young doctor on his first day on the job and exposes what it’s really like to have so many lives in your hands on a daily basis.
In addition to her role on the CBS procedural, Kanakeredes has appeared on the likes of Providence, Extant, and Notorious. She joins a cast that includes the likes of Matt Czuchry (The Good Wife), Emily VanCamp (Revenge), and Bruce Greenwood (The River).
The Resident is set to premiere sometime midseason on FOX. You can check out a trailer here.
