Daniella Pineda Cast As “Sophie” In TVD Originals Spin-Off Pilot

While it had been known already that the new Vampire Diaries backdoor pilot for a spin-off about The Originals would feature Joseph Morgan (Klaus), Daniel Gillies (Elijah), and Phoebe Tonkin (Hayley), news has finally come in courtesy of Deadline.com that one of the new characters for the project has now been cast.

Daniella Pineda (Fitzgerald Family Christmas, Homeland) has been cast as “Sophie” in the backdoor pilot, which will air as an episode of The Vampire Diaries on April 25. If the episode should prove successful, it could lead to an Originals series this Fall. Here’s how Deadline describes the character:

A witch whose magic has been silenced but not snuffed. A leader and a sexy, sharp-tongued social force, she is quietly sowing the seeds of a revolution amongst her peers.

The Originals is one of several projects hoping for a spot on The CW’s 2013-2014 schedule, and more casting news should be coming shortly.
