FOX has announced that raucous family comedy The Mick has been renewed for a 13-episode second season.

“From the earliest stages of development, all of us at Fox had enormous faith in The Mick, and it hasn’t disappointed,” said network entertainment president David Madden. “Kaitlin is a fearless comedic force, and the rest of the cast has just proven to be phenomenal. [Creators] John and Dave Chernin have a very clear vision of what this show is, and they execute on that vision each week to perfection. We really couldn’t be happier with The Mick, and we’re so thrilled to renew the series for a second season.”

The Mick has been a solid addition to FOX’s lineup, becoming the network’s top comedy launch since New Girl with its football-boosted series premiere and regularly building from its lead-in since moving to Tuesdays. The series, which earned modest reviews ahead of its January premiere, was granted four additional episodes to its first season 10 days after premiere, an unusual occurrence for a midseason offering. Due to series star Kaitlin Olson’s commitments to FXX flagship It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, season two of The Mick will actually see a reduction from season one, which grew to 17 episodes. It becomes the fifth FOX scripted series to see 2017-18, joining Bob’s Burgers, The Simpsons, Empire, and Lucifer on next year’s schedule.

From John and Dave Chernin (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), The Mick follows Mackenzie “Mickey” Murphy (Kaitlin Olson), an irresponsible degenerate forced to relocate from Rhode Island to Connecticut in order to take care of her niece and nephews following the arrest of her wealthy sister and brother-in-law. Initially, Mickey thinks that things will get back to normal soon and that she won’t have to do the parental guardian thing any longer than necessary, but when she learns that her sister and brother-in-law are fleeing the country, she’s forced to confront a new reality of responsibility and respectability.

In addition to Olson, The Mick stars Sofia Black-D’Elia (Project Almanac), Thomas Barbusca (Middle School: The Worst Years of My Life), Carla Jimenez (Nacho Libre), Scott MacArthur (Coldwater), and newcomer Jack Stanton.

The Mick airs Tuesdays at 8:30 on FOX.
