While the rest of his friends have made their peace with her death and begun moving on, Quentin is still holding on to the idea that the Alice he knew and loved can be brought back. Even with the others gently urging him to begin the grieving process and realize that Alice was gone, cracking the reversal spell is Quentin’s main goal right now, both because he’s not ready to grieve the loss of someone whose death brings him a lot of guilt and because he wants to find a way to rid himself of Niffin Alice once and for all. Quentin might be willing to deal with Alice’s Niffin form for the time being, but with her coming to collect on the deal he agreed to in order to save Penny, his hand might end up being forced sooner rather than later.

On the next episode of The Magicians, Niffin Alice begins exerting pressure on Quentin to act on the agreement they made and give up control of his body for 30 minutes a day. It was a deal that was ultimately worth it, considering that it helped save Penny from certain death, but Quentin’s reticence at telling the others about what actually happened with Alice has left him open to exploitation, given that there’s nobody there to actively police her use of his body. Quentin’s power doesn’t begin to touch Alice’s in this form and without the safety net of having someone else supervising Alice’s use of his body, it would be very easy for her to seize control and not let go. Niffin Alice is achingly desperate to break free from the prison Quentin’s cacodemon put her in, so she’s going to do everything within her considerable power to avoid going back in the first chance she gets to escape. But if (and when) Alice locks Quentin out of his own body, how will he communicate to the others that he’s actually not the one causing trouble?

Elsewhere on The Magicians, Fillory struggles with magical brownouts and a king whose consciousness is trapped in a slaughtered golem, while Julia is forced to deal with a complication resulting from her fetal exorcism.

The Magicians airs Wednesdays at 9:00 on Syfy.

Should Quentin just go ahead and tell his friends about Alice? What happens if the Fillorian well spring runs out before Eliot gets back in commission? Will the fallout from Julia’s exorcism be too much for her to handle?
