Deadline is reporting that Under the Shadow actress Narges Rashidi has joined the cast of acclaimed Starz anthology The Girlfriend Experience. She’ll be playing Darya Esford, a whipsmart communications director for a D.C. lobbyist firm whose complicated relationship with her ex-girlfriend causes her significant strife.
Season two of The Girlfriend Experience will differ from season one by spotlighting two narratives instead of one. Rashidi’s character will pop up in the narrative controlled by co-creator Lodge Kerrigan, which takes place amid the buildup to the 2018 mid-term elections, an environment where dark money has a considerable influence. The narrative will specifically focus on the unusual relationship between Erica (Anna Friel), the commanding financial director at a prominent republican Super PAC, and GFE provider Anna (Louisa Krause).
This will be Rashidi’s first American television credit, though she’s an accomplished actress on German television, where her credits include Die Spezialisten – Im Namen der Opfer, Auf Herz und Nieren, and Sibel & Max.
The Girlfriend Experience, which was my second favorite show of 2016 for its Riley Keough-starring first season, is part of a drama lineup on Starz that includes Black Sails, Power, Outlander, and The Missing. The network will be premiering The White Princess and American Gods later this year.
