Although they do not have an official comment from The CW, TV Line is confirming that the upcoming 14th season of Supernatural will be a little shorter than usual… and in the end, it’ll be their shortest season since Season 3 which was cut short by a writers’ strike.
During a press call in May, The CW’s Mark Pedowitz said that episode counts were not yet decided upon; even with this, some rumored episode counts did leak a few weeks ago, and this is what they claimed. Note that these episode counts are not confirmed by the studio or the network, so if this is untrue, don’t blame us!
23 episodes: Riverdale
22 episodes: Arrow, The Flash, Supergirl
20 episodes: Supernatural
19 episodes: Jane the Virgin (final season)
16 episodes: DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Black Lightning
13 episodes: All American, Charmed, iZombie (final season), Legacies, Roswell New Mexico, The 100
Unknown: Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Dynasty
On this purported episode count list, the three biggest DC TV series each dropped an episode which will surely make production on a crossover easier, though Riverdale struggled creatively doing a 22 episode season so we’re hoping 23 involves a completely split season and tighter storytelling, for the series’ sake, as Season 1 was pretty much perfect at 13. Stephen Amell dropped the “22 episodes for Arrow Season 7″ bit at a convention appearance, so we tend to think that might be accurate.
New Fall series often have the option to extend to 22 episodes in success. We will update this post when and if any official announcements come.
