Kirsten’s first experience with significant betrayal was when Cameron inadvertently told Maggie that she had been visiting her mother. Though the betrayal hurt that much more considering that Cameron was behind it, Kirsten eventually realized that for as angry as she was, she loved Cameron and didn’t want him out of her life. It was a moment of growth for Kirsten, having to face, process, and cope with uncomfortable emotions after years of temporal dysplasia, and left her on the other side feeling good about both herself and her relationship. However, just because Kirsten was able to work through one betrayal doesn’t mean the next will be that easy and on the next episode of Stitchers, she’s in the trees once again.
That’s because Ivy is the one who created the anomaly that nearly killed her and has been in recent contact with their father. Considering Kirsten’s sudden need for companionship and the pleasant front that Ivy puts on, it’s understandable that she let down her guard; not only does Kirsten want some type of connection to her family, Ivy’s the only person in her life that knows what Stinger was like, meaning that the two share an emotional intimacy that not even she and Cameron can. Which, combined with the recency of what happened with Cameron, makes Ivy’s betrayal hurt that much more, so much that Kirsten begins questioning her place in the program. The point of stitching in the first place is so the brain gets mapped out enough that she can explore the mind of her mother, but with Maggie having moved Jacqueline to an undisclosed location and there being no signs that stitching into her mother is imminent, the amount of stress, lies, and deceit involved with being in the program has begun to outweigh the ultimate end goal. It’d be a lot for anyone to deal with, let alone someone who hasn’t built up anything in the way of coping mechanisms, so the team will have to find a way to reassure Kirsten of the importance of what they’re doing and of the imminence of what could be the final stitch.
Elsewhere on Stitchers, the team finds itself on the dark net after investigating a series of murders, while Camille turns to her music to cope with her recent stress and Kirsten offers Maggie an ultimatum.
