Joss Whedon has said that the characters in the S.H.I.E.L.D. TV pilot for ABC would be new, and different from those we see in The Avengers and other related Marvel movies. Apparently, unless character descriptions that came out today are red herrings, they won’t even be characters we’ve seen in the comics before, although characters like Maria Hill and Bobbi Morse would certainly be welcome.

TVLine today got a hold of casting information which reveals what they’re looking for.

Skye is in her late 20’s, and “sounds like a dream.” She is described as “fun, smart, caring and confident – with an ability to get the upper hand by using her wit and charm.” Agent Grant Ward is “quite the physical specimen” and “cool under fire,” though it is said that he “sometimes botches interpersonal relationships.” Ward is quiet with a bit of a temper, but the description TVLine posted is that he “grows on you.”

Agent Althea Rice, also known as “The Calvary,” is a “hard-core soldier has crazy skills when it comes to weapons and being a pilot.” Her past experiences have left her very quiet and “a little damaged.” (Couldn’t that just be Carol Danvers?) And then there are the new recruits. Agent Leo Fitz and Agent Jemma Simmons went through their S.H.I.E.L.D. training together and spend a lot of time together. They have a sibling-like relationship with “shared nerd tendencies,” although her specialty is biology and chemistry, and his is more on tech and weaponry.

  1. I’ve got to say, I’m pretty dissappointed. He’s basically given access to all of these amazing characters, but we’re given original characters instead. That’s not really what I want to see.

  2. I’m half expecting one or two of these casting calls to be using fake names to conceal which characters they’re actually casting for. I imagine we’ll probably see Maria Hill and Jasper Sitwell (both of whom have appeared in the movies, and thus have already been cast) appearing in the show, along with other SHIELD agents cast for the movies (I’ve got a strong feeling that we’ll see Sharon Carter introduced in Captain America: The Winter Soldier – as Peggy Carter’s granddaughter and Cap’s next love interest).
