The first episode of magic-prank show The Carbonaro Effect premieres tonight (May 15) at 10pm on truTV.

Michael Carbonaro is a magician by trade, but a prankster by heart. In THE CARBONARO EFFECT, Michael performs baffling tricks on unsuspecting people in everyday situations, all caught on hidden camera. Everyone is left stunned and delighted, even though they have no idea what just hit them.
I first saw Michael Carbonaro acting in a movie a few years back, and while I found him to be really funny, I had no idea that he also did magic. In The Carbonaro Effect, his new show, it’s a bit of a Candid Camera meets Bloopers And Practical Jokes hybrid with magic thrown in. Lots of sleight of hand and tricks of the eye. I have no idea how he did several of the things he did, but he did them, and they’re funny – whether it’s grocery store eggs hatching, or disappearing in the locked trunk of a car only to show up outside soon after.
The show made me really interested in seeing Carbonaro actually perform live someday, but seeing on TV does the trick as well. It’s not Breaking Bad; it won’t cure cancer, but The Carbonaro Effect is a good half hour of fun. I’d definitely watch again. The show goes by quickly, and like a bag of chips, a little bit is not enough.
