HBO has uploaded the full six-episode first season of acclaimed sketch show Random Acts of Flyness.
From Terence Nance (An Oversimplification of Her Beauty), the series features interconnected vignettes that create a unique mix of vérité documentary, musical performances, surrealist melodrama, and humorous animation. Themes touched on include trauma, history, death, the singularity, and romance, while Whoopi Goldberg (Ghost), Jon Hamm (Mad Men), Dominique Fishback (The Deuce), Gillian Jacobs (Love), Ntare Guma Mwine (The Chi), Adepero Oduye (12 Years a Slave), Natalie Paul (The Sinner), and Paul Sparks (Boardwalk Empire) are among the guest stars in season one.
The free release of Random Acts of Flyness comes as HBO has been doubling down on highlighting Black experiences in this time of social unrest. The cabler made the full run of acclaimed comic drama Watchmen available to stream for free this weekend, as well as Emmy nominated TV movies Bessie and The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks; Serena Williams docu-series Being Serena; documentaries including Say Her Name: The Life and Death of Sandra Bland, 4 Little Girls, and We Are The Dream; specials from the likes of Jerrod Carmichael and Lil Rel Howery; and a select number of episodes from their scripted originals.
Random Acts of Flyness was renewed for a second season in August 2018. It’s as yet unclear when (or if) season two will be coming in the near future.
