Deadline is reporting that Kevin (Probably) Saves the World alum Jason Ritter has joined upcoming superhero drama Raising Dion. He’ll be playing comic book fan Pat, a scientist who has made a point of being supportive toward the widow and son of his best friend.
Based on the Dennis Liu short film of the same name, which was also turned into a comic book, Raising Dion tells the story of Nicole Reese, a single woman struggling to deal with the death of her husband (Michael B. Jordan) while raising her young son Dion. Things are made that much more difficult when Dion begins to manifest magical, superhero-like abilities that make him a target for those who wish to exploit his gifts for profit and power.
Raising Dion will be the first Netflix comic series to not be included in their Marvel-verse. It’s part of a recent wave of comic-related programming that includes Legion, Marvel’s Runaways, Gotham, The Gifted, Black Lightning, Agents of SHIELD, The CW’s Arrow-verse, and Amazon’s upcoming The Boys and Invincible, as well as the upcoming DC streaming service that will house Titans, Swamp Thing, and Doom Patrol.
In addition to his role on the recently cancelled ABC dramedy, Ritter’s television credits include Parenthood, Another Period, and Gravity Falls.
